- A. 25:12-18 Now these are the generations of Ishmael, Abraham's son, whom Hagar the Egyptian, Sarah's handmaid, bare unto Abraham... [The descendants of Ishmael]
- B. 25:19-26 And these are the generations of Isaac, Abraham's son: Abraham begat Isaac... And after that came his brother out, and his hand took hold on Esau's heel; and his name was called Jacob... [Rebekah struggles in childbirth; Jacob and Esau born]
- C. 25:27-34 And the boys grew: and Esau was a cunning hunter, a man of the field; and Jacob was a plain man, dwelling in tents... And Jacob said, Sell me this day thy birthright... thus Esau despised his birthright. [Jacob obtains Esau's birthright]
- D. 26:1-33 And there was a famine in the land... And Abimelech said unto Isaac, Go from us; for thou art much mightier than we... Wherefore they called that place Beersheba. [Rebekah in a foreign palace; foreign pact]
- E. 27:1-46 And it came to pass, that when Isaac was old... And Jacob went near unto Isaac his father; and he felt him, and said, The voice is Jacob's voice, but the hands are the hands of Esau... And he blessed him. [Blessing taken from Esau]
- F. 28:1-22 And Isaac called Jacob, and blessed him... And Jacob went out from Beersheba... and he dreamed, and behold a ladder set up on the earth... and, behold, the angels of God ascending and descending on it. [Jacob flees from Esau and meets the angels of God]
- G. 29:1-30 Then Jacob went on his journey, and came into the land of the people of the east... And Laban said to Jacob, Because thou art my brother, shouldest thou therefore serve me for nought? tell me, what shall thy wages be? [Jacob arrives at Haran (deception and wages)]
- H. 29:31-30:24 And when the LORD saw that Leah was hated, he opened her womb: but Rachel was barren... And God remembered Rachel, and God hearkened to her, and opened her womb. And she conceived, and bare a son. [Jacob's wives are fertile]
- H'. 30:25-43 And it came to pass, when Rachel had born Joseph, that Jacob said unto Laban, Send me away... And the man increased exceedingly, and had much cattle. [Jacob's flocks are fertile]
- G'. 31:1-55 And he heard the words of Laban's sons, saying, Jacob hath taken away all that was our father's... And early in the morning Laban rose up, and kissed his sons and his daughters, and blessed them: and Laban departed, and returned unto his place. [Jacob leaves Haran (deception and wages)]
- F'. 32:1-32 And Jacob went on his way, and the angels of God met him... And Jacob sent messengers before him to Esau his brother... And Jacob was left alone; and there wrestled a man with him until the breaking of the day. [Jacob returns to Esau and meets the angels of God]
- E'. 33:1-20 And Jacob lifted up his eyes, and looked, and, behold, Esau came... And he said, What meanest thou by all this drove which I met? And he said, These are to find grace in the sight of my lord. And Esau said, I have enough, my brother; keep that thou hast unto thyself. [Blessing-gift returned to Esau]
- D'. 34:1-31 And Dinah the daughter of Leah, which she bare unto Jacob, went out to see the daughters of the land. And when Shechem the son of Hamor the Hivite, prince of the country, saw her, he took her, and lay with her, and defiled her... And they said, Should he deal with our sister as with an harlot? [Dinah in a foreign palace; foreign pact thwarted]
- C'. 35:1-15 And God said unto Jacob, Arise, go up to Bethel... And God said unto him, Thy name is Jacob: thy name shall not be called any more Jacob, but Israel shall be thy name: and he called his name Israel. And God said unto him, I am God Almighty: be fruitful and multiply. [Jacob receives God's blessing]
- B'. 35:16-22 And they journeyed from Bethel... and Rachel travailed, and she had hard labour... And it came to pass, as her soul was in departing, (for she died) that she called his name Benoni: but his father called him Benjamin. [Rachel struggles in childbirth; Benjamin born]
