1st Chiasm (Almsgiving)
- 1A. 2a Therefore when thou doest thine alms
- 1B. 2b do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do
- 1C. 2c They have their reward
- 1A'. 3-4a But when thou doest alms,
- 1B'. 3b let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth
- 1C'. 4b thy Father which seeth in secret himself shall reward thee openly
2nd Chiasm (Prayer)
- 2A. 5a And when thou prayest
- 2B. 5b thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are
- 2C. 5c They have their reward
- 2A'. 6a But thou, when thou prayest,
- 2B'. 6b enter into thy closet... pray to thy Father which is in secret
- 2C'. 6c thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly
3rd Chiasm (Prayer Technique)
- 3A. 7a But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions
- 3B. 7b they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking
- 3C. 8a Be not ye therefore like unto them
- 3B'. 8b for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him
