Greek Key Terms:
Context: John weeps in heaven because no one is found worthy to open the scroll—the book of God's redemptive purposes for history. An elder intervenes: "Weep no more; behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has conquered, so that he can open the scroll and its seven seals." John then sees not a lion but a Lamb "standing, as though it had been slain" (v. 6). The Lion-Lamb conquers through sacrifice.

Connections:
Christological Connection: Revelation 5:5 is the climax of the Judahite scepter trajectory. (1) Lion of Judah: Genesis 49:9's prophecy—"Judah is a young lion"—finds its ultimate fulfillment. Christ is the conquering Lion who rules all creation. (2) Root of David: Isaiah 11:10's "root of Jesse" stands—He is both David's root (eternal origin) and David's descendant (human birth). Christ is both source and product of the Davidic line. (3) Has Conquered: The perfect tense indicates completed victory. How? The Lion conquered by becoming the slain Lamb (v. 6). The cross is His conquest; resurrection is His coronation. (4) Opening the Scroll: Only the Lion-Lamb can open God's purposes for history. The scepter of Judah now controls all that unfolds. Christ is Lord of history. (5) Worship Follows: After the Lamb takes the scroll, all creation worships (vv. 8-14). "To him shall be the obedience of the peoples" (Gen 49:10) is fulfilled as "every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and in the sea" praises the Lamb. The scepter promised to Judah now receives universal homage. The "until Shiloh comes" has arrived.
Connection Method(s): Promise-Fulfillment, Redemptive-Historical Progression — The climax of the Judahite scepter trajectory: Christ explicitly identified as "Lion of the tribe of Judah" who conquered through sacrifice, receiving universal worship as the Lamb.
