Context: Acts 2 records the fulfillment of Jesus' promise: "You will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses" (Acts 1:8). The disciples had waited in Jerusalem as commanded (Luke 24:49; Acts 1:4). Pentecost arrived—the day God had appointed to inaugurate the new covenant age.

Connections:

Christological Connection: Pentecost is the direct fulfillment of the Feast of Weeks and the reversal of Sinai. Parallels to Sinai: Sinai (Exodus 19): Fire and smoke descended (Exodus 19:18), trumpet sounded (Exodus 19:16), Law written on stone, one nation gathered. Pentecost (Acts 2): Tongues of fire appeared (v. 3), sound like rushing wind (v. 2), Law written on hearts, all nations represented (vv. 9-11). Contrasts showing escalation: Sinai: 3,000 died (Exodus 32:28); Law external; one nation. Pentecost: 3,000 saved (Acts 2:41); Law internal; multinational church. Paul's declaration applies: "The letter kills, but the Spirit gives life" (2 Corinthians 3:6). The Law revealed sin and condemned; the Spirit transforms hearts and saves. Pentecost is the new Sinai—the Spirit inaugurating the new covenant, creating a royal priesthood from every nation (1 Peter 2:9), writing God's Law on hearts (Jeremiah 31:33; Hebrews 10:16).

Application: Have you received the Holy Spirit? The promise is for all believers: "Repent and be baptized...and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. For the promise is for you and for your children and for all who are far off, everyone whom the Lord our God calls to himself" (Acts 2:38-39). If you have trusted Christ, you have the Spirit (Romans 8:9). The Spirit empowers you for witness (Acts 1:8)—are you witnessing? The Spirit writes the Law on your heart (Hebrews 10:16)—are you obeying? The Spirit unites you with all believers (1 Corinthians 12:13)—are you living in unity? Pentecost reversed Sinai: the Law that condemned now transforms. Live in the power of the Spirit, not in the weakness of the flesh. The new covenant has come; the Spirit has been poured out. Walk in the Spirit (Galatians 5:16).

Connection Method(s): Typology (Direct, Backward-Looking), Contrast — Pentecost directly fulfills the Feast of Weeks while reversing Sinai: fire/wind theophany parallels, law on hearts replaces stone tablets, 3,000 saved replaces 3,000 dead.
