Context: Revelation 7 is an interlude between the sixth and seventh seals (Revelation 6:12-17; 8:1). Chapter 7 presents two visions of the redeemed: (1) the 144,000 sealed from the twelve tribes of Israel (vv. 1-8), and (2) the innumerable multitude from all nations (vv. 9-17). Both visions depict the same reality from different perspectives: God's people preserved and glorified.

Connections:

  • TO:
  • FROM OT:
    • Genesis 12:3 - Abrahamic promise: "in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed"
    • Isaiah 2:2-3 - all nations stream to the LORD's house
    • Daniel 7:14 - "all peoples, nations, and languages should serve him"
  • FROM NT:
    • Matthew 28:19 - "make disciples of all nations"
    • Acts 1:8 - "you will be my witnesses...to the end of the earth"
    • Revelation 5:9 - "you ransomed people for God from every tribe and language and people and nation"

Christological Connection: Revelation 7:9-10 is the ultimate fulfillment of the Feast of Pentecost. Leviticus 23:17: Present two leavened loaves representing the wheat harvest. Acts 2:5-11: Representatives of "every nation under heaven" in Jerusalem; 3,000 baptized—the firstfruits. Revelation 7:9-10: "A great multitude that no one could number, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages"—the full harvest. The escalation is clear: the Feast gathered Israel's wheat harvest annually; Pentecost gathered 3,000 from various nations initially; Revelation 7 shows the uncountable multitude from all nations eternally. The two leavened loaves (Leviticus 23:17) prefigured Jew and Gentile united; Revelation 7 fulfills this—all peoples unified before the throne. The complete trajectory: Sinai (one nation, Law on stone, 3,000 died) → Pentecost (multinational representatives, Law on hearts, 3,000 saved) → Revelation 7 (innumerable multitude from every nation, eternally saved). What the Feast of Weeks foreshadowed in ritual (wheat harvest), the Spirit accomplishes in reality (gathering the redeemed from all nations).

Application: Worship the Lamb. The multitude cries, "Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!" (v. 10). Salvation is God's work, achieved by the Lamb (Christ). Are you worshiping Him, or are you worshiping yourself (your works, your achievements)? Live with global vision. The church is multinational—"every nation...tribe...people...language." Missions is not optional but central to God's plan. Are you praying for, giving to, and going to the nations? Anticipate the gathering. You will stand with this multitude if you belong to Christ. The harvest is coming. Are you living in light of eternity? The Lamb who was slain is worthy of worship from all peoples. One day, the full harvest will be gathered. Until then, labor for the harvest (Matthew 9:37-38: "The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few"). The firstfruits have been gathered (Pentecost); the full harvest is coming (Revelation 7). Be part of the ingathering.

Connection Method(s): Typology (Direct, Backward-Looking), Longitudinal Theme — The innumerable multinational multitude consummates the Feast of Weeks' harvest typology: from annual wheat harvest to Pentecost's 3,000 firstfruits to the full uncountable harvest from every nation.
