Context: Revelation 19:7-9 announces the consummation: "Let us rejoice and exult and give Him the glory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and His bride has made herself ready; it was granted her to clothe herself with fine linen, bright and pure... Blessed are those who are invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb." Revelation 21:2, 9 pictures the bride: "I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband." An angel says: "Come, I will show you the bride, the wife of the Lamb."

OT-to-OT Development:

  • The marriage feast is the ultimate fulfillment of Genesis 24—the bride finally comes to the bridegroom's home forever.
  • The "new Jerusalem" as bride fulfills Isaiah 54 (barren Zion becomes fruitful), Isaiah 62:5 ("as a bridegroom rejoices over his bride, so will your God rejoice over you").
  • The "fine linen" (Rev 19:8) echoes the priest's garments and the tabernacle coverings—the bride is both temple and priesthood.

Connections:

  • TO OT: Genesis 24 (bride sought for son), Isaiah 54:5-8 (YHWH as husband), Isaiah 62:4-5 (Zion married), Isaiah 61:10 (garments of salvation)
  • FROM REVELATION: Revelation 22:17 (Spirit and Bride say "Come"), Revelation 21:3 (God dwells with man)
  • NT PARALLELS: Ephesians 5:25-32 (Christ and church), 2 Corinthians 11:2 (presented as pure virgin)

Christological Connection: The marriage of the Lamb consummates what Genesis 24 foreshadowed. (1) The Marriage Has Come: "The marriage of the Lamb has come" (19:7). After the servant's journey, Rebekah's consent, the long travel—Isaac and Rebekah united. After redemptive history's long journey—Christ and His bride finally wed. (2) Bride Made Herself Ready: "His bride has made herself ready" (19:7). Rebekah prepared for her journey. The church through history prepares through sanctification. Yet the "fine linen was given to her"—preparation is grace. (3) Marriage Supper: "Blessed are those invited to the marriage supper" (19:9). The servant's arrival with gifts foreshadowed; now the feast itself. Gospel invitation: come to the wedding. (4) Adorned for Her Husband: "Prepared as a bride adorned (κεκοσμημένην) for her husband" (21:2). The servant gave Rebekah jewels; Christ adorns His bride with glory. She descends from heaven—she is heavenly, not earthly in origin. (5) Bride = City = Dwelling: The bride IS the new Jerusalem. "Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man" (21:3). Sarah's tent becomes the eternal city. The bride-bridegroom dwell together forever—comfort, love, no more death (21:4).

Connection Method(s): Typology (Providential, Backward-Looking); Promise-Fulfillment; Longitudinal Theme — The marriage of the Lamb consummates what Genesis 24 foreshadowed and the prophets promised, bringing the entire bridal trajectory to eschatological fulfillment as the Bride-City descends adorned for her husband.
