Anchor Text: Dan 7:13-14 — The Son of Man Receiving Dominion

Significance: Jesus says, "the Son of Man will come in His Father's glory with His angels, and then He will repay each one according to what he has done," and adds that "some who are standing here will not taste death before they see the Son of Man coming in His kingdom" (Matt 16:27-28). The title "the Son of Man," the coming in glory, and the possession of a kingdom draw directly on Daniel 7:13-14, where the Son of Man comes on the clouds and is given "dominion, glory, and kingship." Jesus combines the Danielic enthronement with the divine prerogative of judgment ("repay each one"), claiming for Himself, as Son of Man, the glory and the judicial authority of Daniel's figure. The connection is promise-fulfillment: the vision granted to Daniel finds its fulfillment in the coming of Jesus in His kingdom, inaugurated in His resurrection-enthronement and consummated at His parousia. The telos is the glory of the returning Son of Man Himself — the King whose coming is the hope, not the dread, of those who belong to Him, so that to anticipate His appearing in glory is to long for the One who is worth losing the whole world to gain (Matt 16:26).
