Anchor Text: Dan 7:13-14 — The Son of Man Receiving Dominion

Significance: Matthew 24:30 — "They will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven, with power and great glory" — is a direct citation of Daniel 7:13, where "one like a Son of Man" comes "with the clouds of heaven" to the Ancient of Days and receives universal dominion. Jesus applies this vision to himself as a declaration of his own enthronement and parousia. Within the Olivet Discourse, this coming may refer initially to the vindication of the Son of Man in the judgment upon Jerusalem (AD 70) — a coming in judgment consistent with the prophetic use of cloud-coming language — and ultimately to the final parousia. Daniel 7:13-14 is forward-looking: it does not merely describe a vision but prophesies the investiture of the eschatological ruler over all kingdoms. Jesus's self-identification with this figure across multiple Gospel contexts (Mark 14:62; Matthew 26:64) demonstrates that he understood his own identity and mission in terms of this Danielic commission.
