Anchor Text: Isa 52:13-53:12 — The Suffering Servant
Significance: Matthew applies the Suffering Servant passage to Jesus' healing ministry, not only to his atoning death. Isaiah 53:4 speaks of both physical and spiritual healing - bearing infirmities and diseases. This demonstrates that messianic ministry includes physical restoration as a sign and foretaste of broader redemption. Jesus' healings manifest the kingdom's in-breaking power over all effects of the fall.
