Significance: The crowds quote Psalm 118:25-26, a pilgrim psalm sung during Passover and Tabernacles celebrating God's deliverance. "Hosanna" ("save now") invokes messianic salvation, while "blessed is he who comes in the name of the LORD" welcomes the Davidic king. Mark uniquely adds "the coming kingdom of our father David," explicitly connecting Jesus' entry to Davidic messianic hopes. Yet ironic tension emerges—the crowds welcome the king, but within days will cry "Crucify him." Psalm 118's rejection-vindication pattern (verses 22-23, quoted in Mark 12:10-11) foreshadows Jesus' fate.
