Anchor Text: Dan 7:13-14 — The Son of Man Receiving Dominion

Significance: Jesus' vindication and gathering of the elect follow Jerusalem's judgment. Daniel 7:13-14 provides Son of Man imagery—crucially, this is ascent to God's throne (not descent to earth), receiving authority and kingdom. "Coming in clouds" echoes Yahweh's presence. Jesus' opponents will witness validation of his claims in their lifetimes (cf. 9:1; 14:62; "this generation" in 13:30) through the temple's destruction (AD 70). This fulfills new exodus promises—Zechariah 2:6 and Deuteronomy 30:4 promised gathering scattered exiles. Mark's Jesus expands gathering to include Gentiles, not to destroyed Jerusalem but to the new temple with Jesus as cornerstone (12:10-11), establishing the new spiritual temple-people where God's presence dwells.
