Anchor Text: Exod 24:8 — The Blood of the Covenant
Significance: Jesus innovatively combines Passover with Exodus 24's covenant meal and Isaiah 53's atoning servant death. "Blood of the covenant" echoes Exodus 24:8 where Moses bound Israel to Yahweh at Sinai, while "poured out for many" derives from Isaiah 53:12. Jesus compresses Israel's founding moment (exodus and Sinai covenant) around himself, claiming his death alone effects Passover deliverance and covenant inauguration. This supplants both Passover and temple, establishes Jesus as covenant initiator (Yahweh's role), and includes Gentiles ("the many") in Israel's "kingdom of priests" vocation.
