Significance: Jesus' claim to forgive sins invokes divine prerogative. Only Yahweh forgives sins (Isa. 43:25), yet Jesus exercises this authority on earth using the enigmatic title "Son of Man." Daniel 7:13-14 presents the Son of Man receiving authority from the Ancient of Days. Mark shows Jesus wielding divine authority while still on earth, before his heavenly exaltation. The healing serves as visible proof of invisible forgiveness.
