Anchor Text: Dan 7:13-14 — The Son of Man Receiving Dominion
Significance: The Sabbath was God's own rest (Gen. 2:2-3), given as covenant sign (Exod. 31:12-17), marking Israel's identity. To claim lordship over it asserts authority equal to its institutor. The "Son of Man" title links to Daniel 7's figure sharing the divine throne and exercising cosmic authority. Mark has built to this claim: unprecedented teaching authority, forgiving sins, controlling unclean spirits, now mastering the Sabbath itself. Eschatologically, if Jesus is Lord of the Sabbath, he inaugurates the ultimate Sabbath rest. This watershed moment forces a decision: blasphemer or Yahweh's authorized representative.
