Significance: Monogenēs = "one-of-a-kind," not "only begotten." Isaac as Abraham's "only son" (though Ishmael existed) = son of promise. What Abraham was spared at last minute, God actually did—gave his unique Son. Isaac as typos of Christ (Hebrews 11:17). Contains soteriological dimension: God's love expressed through sending unique Son for world's salvation.
