Significance: Paul reads Israel's wilderness experience as typological preview of Christian baptism and eucharist. "Baptized into Moses" parallels Christian baptism into Christ - both involve water and Spirit (cloud), both establish covenant identity. "Spiritual food and drink" parallels the Lord's Supper - both are miraculous divine provision. Most striking is "the Rock was Christ" (10:4) - Paul identifies the pre-incarnate Christ as Israel's provider, making Him present throughout Israel's history. This reveals Paul's christocentric hermeneutic: Christ didn't merely fulfill OT prophecies, He was actively present in OT events. The typology also warns: Israel's privileges didn't prevent judgment for sin, so Christian sacraments don't guarantee security apart from faithfulness.
