Significance: Psalm 24:1 celebrates Yahweh's ownership of creation. Paul applies this to resolve the meat-offered-to-idols controversy: since God owns everything, food has no intrinsic spiritual taint from pagan rituals. Idols are "nothing" (8:4), so food offered to them remains God's good creation. This hermeneutical move shows Paul's creation theology: God's original blessing remains despite pagan misuse. However, Paul immediately balances this with love: though all food is clean, eating should be governed by concern for weaker believers' consciences (10:27-29). The quotation establishes theological freedom grounded in creation, which love then voluntarily limits for the sake of community.
