Significance: Genesis 2:7 describes Adam's creation as "living soul" (נֶפֶשׁ חַיָּה / ψυχὴν ζῶσαν). Paul contrasts this with Christ as "life-giving spirit" (πνεῦμα ζωοποιοῦν). This reveals Paul's Adam-Christ typology: Adam received life, but Christ gives life. Adam's existence was "natural" (from earth), but Christ's resurrection existence is "spiritual" (from heaven). This hermeneutical move shows how Paul uses Genesis to establish the pattern-fulfillment relationship: the first creation (Adam) anticipated the new creation (Christ). Resurrection bodies will be like Christ's - "spiritual" not meaning immaterial but Spirit-empowered and imperishable. Paul's argument grounds Christian hope in creation theology: just as God made Adam from dust, He will remake believers through resurrection.
