Connection Method(s): Promise-Fulfillment + Longitudinal Theme
Significance: Paul's addition of "and daughters" (kai thygateras) to the Davidic sonship formula in 2 Corinthians 6:18 echoes Isaiah 43:6, where God commands the nations to "bring my sons from afar and my daughters from the end of the earth." The 2 Samuel 7:14 source speaks only of a singular "son," but Paul's expansion to "sons and daughters" draws on Isaiah's vision of God gathering His children from all nations. Isaiah 43:6 sits within the second exodus section (Isa 43:1-7), where God promises to redeem and gather His people — those "called by my name" and "created for my glory" (43:7). The echo signals that the new covenant community inherits not only the Davidic sonship promise but also the Isaianic vision of universal ingathering. The inclusion of "daughters" is theologically significant: it demonstrates that in Christ the patriarchal limitations of the Davidic covenant are transcended (cf. Gal 3:28, "neither male nor female"), and God's family embraces all peoples.
NT Use Pattern: Assimilated — Tributary element of the 2 Corinthians 6:16-18 catena — Isaiah's bring-sons-and-daughters promise.
