Anchor Text: Exod 16 — Manna
Significance: Paul quotes Exodus 16:18 where God's miraculous manna provision ensured wilderness equality - those gathering much had no surplus, those gathering little had no lack. Paul applies this exodus typology to church generosity: just as manna created equality in Israel's wilderness journey, Christian giving should create economic equality in the church. The typological pattern is clear: exodus generation prefigures the church journeying from this age to the coming age sustained by God's grace. The manna principle prohibits hoarding (it spoiled overnight), tests faith in God's continued provision, and demonstrates corporate identity - one body caring for all members. The Jerusalem collection embodies this: Gentile believers helping Jewish believers, furthering unity while trusting God's supply.
