Significance: Paul's opening identification of God as "our Savior" (sōtēros hēmōn) in 1 Timothy 1:1 participates in a broad OT tradition of identifying YHWH as Savior. Psalm 25:5 addresses God as "the God of my salvation" (ho theos tou sōtēriou mou in the LXX). While this is not a direct verbal quotation, the Pastoral Epistles' distinctive concentration of sōtēr language for both God and Christ (1 Tim 1:1; 2:3; 4:10; 2 Tim 1:10; Tit 1:3; 2:10, 13; 3:4, 6) echoes the Psalter's and Isaiah's consistent application of salvation language to YHWH (cf. Ps 106:21; Isa 43:3, 11; 45:15, 21). The echo is conceptual rather than verbal: Paul draws on the deep OT conviction that God alone saves, and applies this title to Christ alongside the Father, with profound Christological implications.
