Hebrews 10:37-38 to Isaiah 26:20

NT Text: Hebrews 10:37-38

OT Source(s):

Source: Treasury of Scripture Knowledge

Reference Type: Direct Quotation

Connection Method(s): Promise-Fulfillment

Significance: Conflates two OT texts with common "coming" theme. Orients endurance to Christ's second coming. "Little while" = present era of tension. Adds definite article to make "the Coming One" messianic title. Inverts last two clauses so "my righteous one" is subject of both—lives by faith or shrinks back. Introduces chapter 11 exempla on faith. Paul uses Hab. 2:4 for justification; Hebrews uses it for perseverance. The prophetic promise of vindication ("the coming one will come") sustains believers through present trials—faith is the endurance mechanism that prevents shrinking back into judgment.
