Anchor Text: Lev 16 — The Day of Atonement
Significance: Day of Atonement sacrifices burned "outside the camp." Typological: Christ suffered "outside the gate" of Jerusalem (13:12). Believers called to "go to him outside the camp" (13:13), bearing reproach. Solidarity with Christ in his rejection. The typological move is powerful—just as sin offering bodies were taken outside the camp (place of uncleanness), so Jesus suffered outside Jerusalem's gate. Believers are therefore called to "go to him outside the camp," willing to bear the reproach he bore. This "outside" location represents rejection by the religious establishment, but also identification with Christ's atoning death. The exhortation relativizes earthly attachments—"here we have no lasting city" (13:14)—and calls for pilgrim identity bearing Christ's shame while seeking the city to come.
