Significance: Exodus 28:29 prescribes that whenever Aaron enters the Holy Place "he shall bear the names of the sons of Israel over his heart on the breastpiece of judgment, as a continual reminder before the LORD." The high priest carried the whole covenant people, by name, into God's presence — representation worn over the heart. Hebrews draws on this priestly logic when it says of Christ, "He is able to save completely those who draw near to God through Him, since He always lives to intercede for them" (Heb 7:25). The connection is typological. The breastpiece is an analogical, historical, forward-pointing pattern of intercessory representation, and the escalation is profound: Aaron bore engraved stones on a cloth garment and entered an earthly sanctuary once a year, but Christ bears His people in His own person, "always lives," and intercedes in the true heavenly Holy Place. Where Aaron's continual remembrance was a ritual gesture limited by his mortality, the Son's intercession is unbroken and effectual because His priesthood is permanent (7:24). The names over Aaron's heart anticipate a Mediator who never forgets, never dies, never ceases to plead for His own. The telos is deep assurance and delight — to know that one's name is borne over the heart of the living, ever-interceding High Priest is to rest in a salvation carried to completion by Christ Himself.
