Significance: Peter's triad — "chosen according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through the sanctifying work of the Spirit, for obedience and sprinkling by the blood of Jesus Christ" (eis hypakoēn kai rhantismon haimatos Iēsou Christou) — echoes the Sinai covenant ceremony of Exodus 24:3-8, where Moses sprinkled (rhantizō in LXX) the blood of the covenant on the people after they pledged obedience. The verbal parallel of "sprinkling of blood" + "obedience" in both texts is striking. At Sinai, the blood ratified the covenant and the people's commitment to obey; Peter applies this pattern to Christ's blood, which ratifies the new covenant and effects the sanctification that enables genuine obedience. The typological escalation is clear: animal blood gave way to the blood of Christ, and external sprinkling yields to inward transformation by the Spirit.
