Significance: God's purpose for Israel declared at Sinai now finds fulfillment in the church. The entire people of God are constituted as priests with unmediated access to God through Christ's blood, removing the sin obstacle that prevented Israel from achieving this calling. As a priestly kingdom, believers mediate God's light to the nations (Isaiah 43:10-13), fulfilling Israel's missionary vocation. Christ's atoning work enables what the old covenant anticipated but could not accomplish.
