Significance: Joel 3:13 commands, "Put in the sickle, for the harvest is ripe. Come, trample, for the winepress is full; the vats overflow, for their wickedness is great." John's vision of the angel with the sharp sickle gathering grapes and casting them into "the great winepress of God's wrath" directly fulfills Joel's eschatological harvest imagery. Both texts combine the sickle and winepress metaphors to depict divine judgment in the Valley of Jehoshaphat / Day of the Lord. The escalation is evident: Joel describes a future Day of the Lord; Revelation depicts its final, cosmic enactment. The dual harvest imagery — grain (14:14-16) and grapes (14:17-20) — reflects Joel's own pairing of harvest and winepress. Blood flowing to the height of horse bridles for 1,600 stadia intensifies Joel's overflowing vats beyond any historical precedent.
