Significance: The description of the 144,000 — "no lie was found in their mouths; they are blameless" — echoes Zephaniah 3:13, where the purified remnant of Israel is characterized by truthfulness: "they will do no wrong and speak no lies, nor will a deceitful tongue be found in their mouths." Zephaniah's context is the eschatological purification of Israel: after judgment, God will leave among His people a humble remnant who take refuge in His name (Zeph 3:12). John applies this remnant prophecy to the 144,000 who bear the Lamb's name and follow Him faithfully. The contrast with the beast's system of deception (Rev 13:14, "it deceived those who dwell on the earth") is pointed: the redeemed are characterized by truth, the beast's followers by deception. The "blamelessness" (amōmoi) uses sacrificial language — they are unblemished offerings, firstfruits to God and the Lamb (Rev 14:4), echoing the requirement for sacrificial animals to be without defect.
