Significance: John's vision of "three unclean spirits that looked like frogs" (batrachoi) coming from the dragon, beast, and false prophet recalls the second Egyptian plague where frogs (tseparde'im / LXX batrachoi) swarmed over the land of Egypt. The term batrachos appears only in Exodus 8 and Revelation 16:13 in biblical literature, creating a unique lexical link. In Exodus, the frogs were a judgment against Egypt's idolatrous system; in Revelation, the frog-like spirits emerge from the idolatrous trinity to deceive the nations. The inversion is significant: in the exodus, frogs were sent by God as judgment; in Revelation, frog-spirits are sent by Satan as deception, yet ultimately serve God's purposes by gathering kings to Armageddon. This continues the sustained new-exodus pattern of the bowl plagues.
