Significance: Isaiah 60:19-20 promises: "The sun will no more be your light by day, nor will the brightness of the moon shine on you, for YHWH will be your everlasting light, and your God will be your glory." Revelation 21:23 directly fulfills this: "the city has no need of sun or moon to shine on it, because the glory of God illuminates the city, and the Lamb is its lamp." The verbal correspondence is nearly exact — no sun, no moon, God as light. The christological addition is significant: Isaiah names YHWH as the light; Revelation adds "the Lamb is its lamp" (ho lychnos autēs to arnion), identifying the Lamb with the divine light-giving function. This allusion participates in the canonical light trajectory from creation (Gen 1:3) through the pillar of fire, the lampstand, and the Servant as light to the nations, to God Himself as the eternal light source.
