Revelation 21:3 to Leviticus 26:11-12

NT Text: Revelation 21:3

OT Source(s):

Reference Type: Allusion

Connection Method(s): Promise-Fulfillment, Longitudinal Theme

Significance: Revelation 21:3 consummates the covenant formula first articulated in Lev 26:11-12: "I will make my dwelling (miškānî) among you... I will walk among you and will be your God, and you shall be my people." The throne-voice in Rev 21:3 declares the same formula at its eschatological telos: "Behold, the dwelling place (σκηνή) of God is with man. He will dwell (σκηνώσει) with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God." The σκηνή/σκηνόω vocabulary deliberately echoes the LXX rendering of the Levitical tabernacle-promise and is reinforced by the whole-canon trajectory: Exodus 25:8 (let them make me a sanctuary that I may dwell among them) → Ezekiel 37:27 (my dwelling place will be with them) → John 1:14 (the Word tabernacled among us) → Rev 21:3 (final tabernacling). What Leviticus promised as conditional covenant blessing is fulfilled unconditionally in the new creation — God's unmediated presence as the pilgrim's homeland. The escalation is total: no curtain, no priestly mediation, no temple (Rev 21:22) — because the Lamb is the temple.
