Significance: Exodus 33:20 declares the absolute prohibition: "You cannot see My face, for no man can see Me and live" (לֹא יוּכַל הָאָדָם לִרְאֹתַנִי וָחָי, lo yukhal ha'adam lir'otani vachai). Revelation 22:4 announces the eschatological reversal: "They will see His face (ὄψονται τὸ πρόσωπον αὐτοῦ), and His name will be on their foreheads." What was impossible under the old covenant—beholding God's face and surviving—becomes the defining privilege of the new creation. The trajectory from Sinai's prohibition to the New Jerusalem's promise represents one of Scripture's most dramatic reversals: the barrier between God's holiness and human mortality is finally removed, enabling the beatific vision that Moses was denied.
