Significance: Ezekiel's temple vision concludes with the climactic declaration that the eschatological city's name will be YHWH Shammah — "The LORD is there" (Ezek 48:35). This name signifies the permanent, unmediated presence of God dwelling with His people, reversing the devastating departure of God's glory from Solomon's temple (Ezek 10-11). Christ's promise to write "the name of the city of My God, the new Jerusalem" on the overcomer draws on this Ezekielian tradition. The city's identity is defined by God's name being upon it — and now upon the believer. The overcomer becomes a living embodiment of YHWH Shammah: a person in whom God permanently dwells, who will "never again leave" the temple. This connects to the broader Revelation theme that culminates in 21:3: "the dwelling place of God is with man." Ezekiel's architectural vision of restored sacred space finds its ultimate fulfillment in persons, not merely buildings.
