Significance: John's vision of "seven torches of fire burning before the throne, which are the seven Spirits of God" directly develops Zechariah's imagery of the seven-lamped menorah representing God's Spirit. Zechariah 4:10 identifies the seven lamps as "the eyes of the LORD, which range throughout the whole earth" — a symbol of divine omniscience and omnipresence. John transposes this earthly temple vision into the heavenly throne room, where the seven lamps become blazing torches (lampades pyros) — intensified from gentle lamplight to fierce fire. The identification as "the seven Spirits of God" connects to the greeting of Revelation 1:4, forming an inclusio of Spirit-symbolism. The throne-room setting elevates the temple menorah to its heavenly archetype: Zechariah's vision was of the earthly copy; John now sees the original in the heavenly sanctuary.
