Significance: The Trisagion ("Holy, holy, holy") of the four living creatures in Revelation 4:8 directly echoes the seraphim's antiphonal cry in Isaiah 6:3. The threefold "holy" (qadosh, qadosh, qadosh) is the only attribute of God repeated three times in succession in Scripture, underscoring its supreme importance. John adapts Isaiah's vision: the seraphim become four living creatures (drawing also on Ezekiel's cherubim), and "LORD of hosts" (YHWH tseva'ot) becomes "Lord God Almighty" (kyrios ho theos ho pantokratōr) — a Greek equivalent carrying the same connotation of sovereign military power. John adds the temporal formula "who was and is and is to come," fusing the holiness declaration with the eternal self-existence of God (cf. Exod 3:14). The continuity of worship between Isaiah's temple vision and John's throne room vision demonstrates that the God worshiped in the heavenly court is the same YHWH encountered by Isaiah in the earthly temple.
