Significance: Exodus 30:8-10 prescribes the daily incense offering on the golden altar of incense, which was to burn "perpetual incense before the LORD throughout your generations." This altar stood before the veil, mediating between the holy place and the Most Holy Place. John's vision of incense smoke rising "with the prayers of the saints" before God from the angel's hand (Rev 8:4) fulfills this tabernacle typology: the prayers of the new covenant community now rise as fragrant incense directly before God's heavenly throne. The existing IP (Rev 8:3-4 to Lev 16:12-13) addresses the Day of Atonement dimension; this Exodus 30 connection highlights the daily, continual nature of priestly intercession. The heavenly incense altar shows that the earthly tabernacle furniture was always a copy of the heavenly original (Heb 8:5), and that prayer is the new covenant equivalent of the perpetual incense offering.
