Significance: Exodus 34:24 promises that when Israel goes up to appear before the LORD three times a year, "no one will covet your land" — God's protection of the land is tied to faithful pilgrimage worship. Deuteronomy 12:2 then develops the worship side of this promise by commanding destruction of all pagan high places and centralizing sacrifice at "the place the LORD your God will choose" (הַמָּקוֹם אֲשֶׁר־יִבְחַר, hamaqom asher-yivchar, v. 5). The two texts together establish a covenant logic: God will enlarge and protect Israel's borders (Exod 34:24) when Israel worships exclusively at His chosen place rather than at the scattered Canaanite shrines (Deut 12:2-5). Land security and worship purity are thus bound together as reciprocal covenant obligations.
