Significance: Judges 2:6 opens the narrative prologue that explains the generation who served the LORD "throughout the days of Joshua" and "who had seen all the great works" (כָּל־מַעֲשֵׂה יְהוָה הַגָּדוֹל, kol-ma'aseh YHWH hagadol). This echoes Deuteronomy 11:7, where Moses reminds Israel "your own eyes have seen all the great works of the LORD" (כָּל־מַעֲשֵׂה יְהוָה הַגָּדֹל). Both texts identify eyewitness experience of God's mighty acts as the basis for continued faithfulness. The Judges passage tragically shows that once the eyewitness generation died, so did Israel's fidelity, fulfilling the danger Moses anticipated in Deuteronomy.
