Significance: David's charge to Solomon in 1 Kings 2:1-4 follows the pattern of Moses/God commissioning Joshua in Joshua 1:5-9. Both commissions come at the death of a great leader, both use "be strong and courageous" (חֲזַק וֶאֱמָץ, chazaq ve'emats), both command meditation on and obedience to the Torah of Moses, and both promise success contingent on faithfulness. The structural parallel is deliberate: just as Joshua succeeded Moses at the threshold of the promised land, Solomon succeeds David at the threshold of the temple era. Both transitions mark pivotal moments in redemptive history where the new leader must demonstrate faithfulness to the Torah to secure God's blessing on the next phase of His plan.
