1 Kings 5:1 to 2 Samuel 7:11

Text: 1 Kings 5:1

OT Text Referred to: 2 Samuel 7:11

Subject: Solomon's message to Hiram

Source: Treasury of Scripture Knowledge

Reference Type: Echo

Connection Method(s): Promise-Fulfillment

Significance: In 2 Samuel 7:11, God promises David: "The LORD declares to you that He Himself will establish a house (בַּיִת, bayit) for you." 1 Kings 5:1 begins the narrative of Solomon's temple construction by noting Hiram's alliance, leading to Solomon's explanation that David could not build "because of the wars surrounding him." The wordplay on בַּיִת bridges both texts: God promised David a dynastic "house" (2 Sam 7:11), and the son born from that dynasty would build a physical "house" (temple) for the LORD. Solomon's temple project thus fulfills the promise embedded in Nathan's oracle — the dynasty God builds for David produces the builder God designated for the temple.
