1 Kings 5:1-5 to 2 Samuel 7:11-13

Text: 1 Kings 5:1-5

OT Text Referred to: 2 Samuel 7:11-13

Subject: Davidic covenant promise fulfilled in Solomon's temple

Source: Treasury of Scripture Knowledge

Reference Type: Direct Quotation

Connection Method(s): Promise-Fulfillment

Significance: 2 Samuel 7:11-13 contains the core of the Davidic covenant: God will build David a "house" (dynasty), raise up his seed (זֶרַע, zera'), and that descendant "will build a house for My Name." 1 Kings 5:1-5 records Solomon's direct fulfillment: he tells Hiram of Tyre that he intends to build the temple because "the LORD said to my father David, 'Your son... he will build the house for My Name.'" Solomon explicitly quotes the Nathan oracle, making his temple project a conscious act of covenant fulfillment. The promise-fulfillment arc is unmistakable: the same divine speech that established the dynasty also designated the temple builder, binding kingship and temple together as twin expressions of God's covenantal purpose.
