Text: 1 Chronicles 29:27-30
OT Text Referred to: 1 Kings 2:10-11
Subject: David's death and reign length — parallel account
Source: Treasury of Scripture Knowledge
Reference Type: Allusion
Connection Method(s): None
Significance: These are parallel regnal summaries for David. Kings provides the bare formula: David rested with his fathers (וַיִּשְׁכַּב דָּוִד עִם־אֲבֹתָיו, vayyishkav David 'im 'avotav), was buried in the City of David, and reigned forty years. The Chronicler expands the closing with source citations ("the records of Samuel the seer, Nathan the prophet, and Gad the seer") and a summary of David's reign characterized by "riches and honor" (1 Chr 29:28). Chronicles also uniquely adds that these sources recorded "all the events of his reign and his power, and the circumstances that affected him and Israel and all the kingdoms of the surrounding lands" — presenting David's significance as international, not merely domestic.
