OT Text Referred to: Exodus 25:2

Subject: freewill offerings

Source: Treasury of Scripture Knowledge

Reference Type: Allusion

Connection Method(s): Longitudinal Theme

Significance: Exodus 25:2 commands Israel to take a freewill offering (תְּרוּמָה, terumah) for constructing the tabernacle—"from every man whose heart prompts him" (כֹּל אִישׁ אֲשֶׁר יִדְּבֶנּוּ לִבּוֹ, kol ish asher yiddennu libbo). 1 Chronicles 29:6 records an identical pattern for Solomon's temple: "the leaders of the families, the officers of the tribes... offered willingly" (וַיִּתְנַדְּבוּ, vayyitnadvu). Both texts emphasize the voluntary, heart-motivated nature of contributions for God's dwelling place, using the language of willing-heartedness. The Chronicler deliberately parallels the tabernacle offering with the temple offering, establishing a continuous tradition: every legitimate sanctuary receives its materials through the same kind of spontaneous generosity that built the wilderness tabernacle.
