Connection Method(s): None
Significance: These are parallel accounts of the full narrative of the northern secession. Both texts record the assembly at Shechem, Rehoboam's refusal to lighten the burden (sevlut), and the ten tribes' defection under Jeroboam. The Chronicler closely reproduces 1 Kings 12:1-19 but subsequently narrows his focus to Judah alone, treating the northern kingdom as largely outside his scope. For the Chronicler's post-exilic audience, this account explains why the restored community comprises primarily Judah and Benjamin while implicitly inviting the northern remnant to return to proper Davidic-temple worship.
