Text: 2 Chronicles 18:1-19
OT Text Referred to: 1 Kings 22:2-40
Subject: Jehoshaphat and Ahab at Ramoth-gilead — parallel account
Source: Treasury of Scripture Knowledge
Reference Type: Allusion
Connection Method(s): None
Significance: These are parallel accounts of the campaign against Ramoth-gilead featuring the confrontation between true prophet Micaiah and the 400 court prophets. Both texts record Micaiah's vision of the heavenly council where a lying spirit is sent into the mouths of Ahab's prophets — one of the most vivid scenes of prophetic conflict in the OT. The Chronicler follows Kings closely but reframes the narrative around Jehoshaphat rather than Ahab, and adds the marriage alliance detail (2 Chr 18:1) and the post-battle prophetic rebuke by Jehu son of Hanani (2 Chr 19:1-3). While Kings focuses on Ahab's downfall, Chronicles uses the same event to evaluate Jehoshaphat's compromised faithfulness.
