Text: 2 Chronicles 2:1-18
OT Text Referred to: 1 Kings 5:1-18
Subject: Solomon's treaty with Hiram
Source: Treasury of Scripture Knowledge
Reference Type: Allusion
Connection Method(s): None
Significance: These are parallel accounts of Solomon's treaty with Hiram (Huram) of Tyre for temple construction materials. Both texts record the exchange of Lebanon cedar and skilled labor for wheat, barley, oil, and wine. The Chronicler's version adds Solomon's theological declaration to Hiram: "the house I am building will be great, for our God is greater than all gods" (2 Chr 2:5). This apologetic addition, absent from Kings, transforms a diplomatic transaction into a confession of Yahweh's supremacy, framing the temple project as international testimony to God's greatness.
