Significance: These are parallel accounts of Ahaziah of Judah's one-year reign. Both record his alliance with Joram of Israel against Hazael at Ramoth-gilead and his visit to the wounded Joram at Jezreel — the fateful visit that led to his death during Jehu's coup. The Chronicler adds that "the destruction of Ahaziah was from God" (מֵאֱלֹהִים הָיְתָה תְּבוּסַת אֲחַזְיָהוּ, 2 Chr 22:7) — interpreting his visit to Joram as divinely orchestrated judgment for his alliance with the house of Ahab. Where Kings narrates events, Chronicles provides their theological cause.
