2 Chronicles 22:10 to 2 Kings 11:1

Text: 2 Chronicles 22:10

OT Text Referred to: 2 Kings 11:1

Subject: Athaliah usurps rule

Source: Treasury of Scripture Knowledge

Reference Type: Direct Quotation

Connection Method(s): None

Significance: Both texts open identically: "When Athaliah the mother of Ahaziah saw that her son was dead, she rose and destroyed all the royal offspring" (אֲבַד, 'avad). This is the most dangerous moment in the Davidic line's history — a non-Davidic usurper nearly extinguishes the messianic dynasty. Both accounts then record Jehosheba (called Jehoshabeath in Chronicles) hiding the infant Joash for six years. The Chronicler adds that Jehosheba was "the wife of Jehoiada the priest" (2 Chr 22:11), connecting the rescue to the priestly household and explaining how the child was concealed in the temple precincts.
