OT Text Referred to: 2 Kings 12:1
Subject: rule of Joash of Judah

Significance: Both texts introduce Joash's reign with the standard regnal formula, noting he began to reign at age seven and ruled forty years. Both qualify his positive evaluation with a condition: Joash "did what was right in the eyes of the LORD all the days of Jehoiada the priest" (2 Kgs 12:2). This qualification foreshadows the king's later apostasy — once his priestly mentor died, Joash deteriorated. The Chronicler dramatically develops this post-Jehoiada decline (2 Chr 24:17-22), including the murder of Jehoiada's own son Zechariah, material largely absent from Kings.
