Significance: These are parallel accounts of Joash's reign. Both record the temple repair project using a collection chest and the assessment against Hazael of Aram. The Chronicler significantly expands the account, adding Joash's post-Jehoiada apostasy when "they abandoned the house of the LORD" (2 Chr 24:18), the prophetic indictment and martyrdom of Zechariah son of Jehoiada ("May the LORD see and avenge!"), the Aramean invasion as divine judgment for forsaking God, and Joash's assassination by his own servants as retribution for Zechariah's blood. This expanded narrative transforms Joash from a partially positive king (Kings) into a paradigm of the leader whose faithfulness depends entirely on external spiritual influence.
